Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory

TCM believes that people are part of nature, that our bodies are like nature—and we too have an ability to correct imbalances and heal.


Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest healing systems on the planet and has been practiced consistently for over 2,000 years. TCM is a complex system of medicine that includes the following treatment modalities: acupuncture/acupressure, classical herbal medicine, tuina/medical bodywork, qigong/tai chi exercise, and diet/lifestyle. It is safe, effective and gentle medicine used by more than 3 million people in the U.S. 

Acupressure and acupuncture use the same theories of TCM to determine the cause of disease and the best treatment plan. However, acupuncture uses needles to stimulate points on the body whereas acupressure uses the practitioner's fingers and hands.

 

Chinese Medicine theories were developed through the close observation of nature and a deep understanding of the energetic relationship between the five elements:
